Geolabs Drilling Site Visit

Engineers, geologists and technicians from Geolabs Limited recently visited a local development site with a percussion cap drilling rig in operation. This excursion provided a chance to experience an active geotechnical investigation site; observing one of the main drilling processes in the UK and how some of the specimen types tested at Geolabs Limited are recovered from the ground.

This visit provided a quick overview of some of the in-situ tests undertaken during the borehole drilling process; Standard Penetration and Cone Penetration Tests. In addition, it provided an insight into the different borehole/drilling practices in the UK, their respective advantages and disadvantages and the role that UK geology plays in determining a drilling strategy.
