The Roles
As a Laboratory Testing Engineer/Geotechnologist, you will be responsible for performing advanced and effective stress tests on soil samples such as standard triaxial, cyclic triaxial, direct simple shear, resonant column, and constant rate of strain consolidation tests, after receiving the necessary training. You will also process and check the test results and help to train new engineers and technicians.

Key Responsibilities
- Performing advanced and effective stress testing to the highest levels of testing standards and safety, after receiving the necessary training.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities
- Undertake laboratory testing, core and sample logging, and petrographic examination and interpretation efficiently and reliably, in accordance with relevant standards, technical procedures and Geolabs’ health, safety and quality requirements.
- Identify and classify minerals, rock types, textures, fabric, grain size, condition, and other relevant parameters, and prepare clear technical reports supported by appropriate photomicrographs.
- Train, coach and support laboratory technicians, and assess their competence to carry out laboratory tests safely and correctly.
- Work with the Technical Management Team to develop and improve methods and working practices that increase laboratory efficiency.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is fully functional, calibrated and fit for purpose.
- Support laboratory accreditation, promote good QA/QC practices and comply with the Geolabs Limited Quality Manual.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
For this opportunity, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications, experience, skills and attributes:
- A relevant qualification in Geology, Engineering Geology, Petrology, Mineralogy, Earth Sciences or a closely related discipline.
- Practical experience describing and logging soil and rock samples, together with experience in petrographic examination and the interpretation of thin sections.
- Previous experience working in a geotechnical or materials-testing laboratory would be advantageous.
- Excellent analytical, observational and practical skills, together with strong technical report-writing and teamwork skills; good numeracy and literacy; and strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
- A proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude is essential.
