Introduction of new BS EN ISO Standards for soils tests

The introduction of the new European BS EN ISO 17892 series has begun with the publication of BS EN ISO 17892-1: 2014 – Water Content, which replaces BS 1377-2: 1990, Clause 3.2, and also BS EN ISO 17892-2: 2014 – Determination of Bulk Density which replaces BS 1377-2: 1990, Clauses 7.1 to 7.3.

The new standards, which include more stringent reporting requirements, have been fully adopted by all Geolabs Limited’s laboratories and the respective clauses of BS 1377-2: 1990 for Moisture Content and Bulk Density have been withdrawn. Therefore, Moisture Content and Bulk Density tests to BS 1377 should no longer be scheduled.

However, where other BS 1377 tests are scheduled that specify a requirement for Moisture Content and Bulk Density to the BS 1377 method, for example, quick undrained triaxial tests, this will be undertaken as required.
