Geotechnica 2015

Geolabs attended Geotechnica 2015, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th July, the UK’s Largest Geotechnical Conference and Exhibition

AECOM engineers had a tour around Geolabs’ laboratories led by Chris Wallace. This included a basic introduction of each of the tests seen, ranging from Atterberg Limits up to advanced triaxial testing. If you would like to arrange a tour for a group of your colleagues (ideally for a group of 5 to 10 people), […]

Ammonites /ˈæmənaɪts/ are an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals in the subclass Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopoda. These molluscs are more closely related to living […]

Dendritic crystal growth

During daily testing on rocks, GEOLABS has found a beautiful example of Dendritic crystal growth (from Greek δένδρον déndron, “tree”) in a Mudstone with its characteristically fractal pattern growth. These crystallized minerals (often mistaken for fossils) are formed in joints, but can occur within foliation, of the rocks that are filled by percolating of mineral solutions. A variety […]
