The Role
To undertake Advanced laboratory testing in the laboratory ensuring that all testing is performed as efficiently and effectively as possible, consistent with maintaining the highest levels of safety and testing standards required, and in accordance with Company procedures and policies for Health, Safety and Quality.

After receiving the necessary training, your role will be to perform advanced tests on samples such as monotonic, cyclic triaxial and simple shear tests in addition to resonant column and constant rate of strain consolidation tests. Eventually, you will process and check the advanced tests as well as train new technicians in testing responsibilities.

Key responsibilities
• Perform Advanced testing to the highest levels of testing standards and safety
• Audit and make recommendations to approve technical staff for performing Advanced tests
• Ensure that all equipment used in the Advanced testing laboratory is fully functional, calibrated and fit-for- purpose.
• Help in maintaining accreditation in the Advanced testing laboratory and to promote good QA/QC practices and procedures, and ensure that the Geolabs Limited Quality Manual and procedures are complied with
• To support our research-oriented testing section along with the Advanced and Research Testing Laboratory Engineers to develop new Advanced testing techniques

Qualifications
A minimum of a BSc or BEng degree in Civil Engineering to lead to an MSc in Soil Mechanics and Advanced Laboratory Testing.
Any qualification in Engineering Geology, Geology or Geotechnics would be acceptable if appropriate.

Experience
Significant experience in working in a geotechnical laboratory testing. At least two years of experience and in-depth knowledge of effective stress and advanced testing techniques, equipment and procedures.

Essential Skills
Excellent practical, teamwork, and time-management skills.
IT skills, e.g., strong MS Excel knowledge, etc.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day testing and output from the laboratory which you will work.

Qualifications
• A minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) with Grade C or above in English, Maths and a Science subject (Chemistry or Physics)
• Any qualification in Engineering Geology, Geology or Geotechnics would be preferred.
• At least 2 years’ experience in working in a commercial laboratory and having knowledge and experience of undertaking effective stress and other associated testing.

Essential Skills
Excellent practical, teamwork, and time-management skills.
Good IT skills with experience in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word and Excel)

Job Summary
To undertake laboratory testing and core logging in a large soils and rocks laboratory and ensure that all testing and core and sample logging is performed as efficiently and effectively as possible consistent with maintaining the highest levels of safety and testing standards required and in accordance with Company procedures and policies for Health, Safety and Quality

Key responsibilities
• Perform laboratory testing to the highest levels of safety and testing standards;
• Ensure that any staff reporting to the Laboratory Geologist are trained, coached and continually develop appropriate skill levels to ensure that all tests are performed in a safe and reliable manner;
• Audit and make recommendations to approve technician staff for performing laboratory tests;
• Develop new working practices and methods in conjunction with the Technical Management Team to improve the efficiency of laboratory testing;
• Ensure that all equipment used in the testing laboratory is fully functional, calibrated and fit-for-purpose;
• Help in maintaining any accreditation in the testing laboratory and to promote good QA/QC practices and ensure that the Geolabs Limited Quality Manual is complied with.

Qualifications
Good standard of general education, including 6 GCSE’s (including maths, English and a science subject) and 2 ‘A’ levels or similar qualifications. Any qualification in Engineering Geology, Geology or Geotechnics would be a distinct advantage

Experience
Experience in working in a geotechnical laboratory and performing laboratory tests are in accordance with national Standards or Technical Procedures. Experience in describing and logging both soils and rocks is an advantage
